Weekly Tarotcast: 5/7-5/13

It's Monday again y'all which means it's time to draw the weekly card. I'm getting better about posting these at the front end of the week now that I am done with the Biddy Tarot Certification Program! I learned so much throughout this last year of certification and I can't wait to share all of that knowledge with you through readings, blogs, and more. Be on the lookout for all new Tarot Reading offerings in the next few weeks. I'm even thinking about adding video calls to the offerings. Now for the tarotcast.!

This short reading is intended to reveal insight for the collective consciousness, or the energies we as a unified society may experience in the coming week. The messages that you relate to are the messages you were meant to hear! If you are interested in expanding on how this energy will affect you in the coming week, I encourage you to book a three card reading so we can explore deeper. Last week there was a focus on our relationship to material wealth – we were called to take some time to think about how we view worth and to let go of our constant need for control. Now that we've sat with our thoughts for a bit, the Eight of Wands is asking us to take some action.

Eight of Wands

Keywords: swift change, action, movement

How beautiful is this Eight of Wands from the Ethereal Visions Tarot?! We're really loving this Art Nouveau style deck by Matt Hughes. In this rendition of the Eight of Wands, we see eight blossoming wands flying through the air. In the distance we can see a riving flowing smoothly through a valley with mountains in the background. Behind the wands are moving clouds showing the winds of change associated with this card. Although there are clouds present, they aren't stormy and the rest of the sky is a beautiful bright blue. This signifies that little is in your way and like the easy-flowing river, you are now able to take action with ease. Since this card is in the suite of wands, we know that it is associated with the element of Fire and your passions or what motivates you.

So while last week you were working through the messages illuminated by the Full Moon and in "thinking" mode as you held tightly to all of your pentacles, this week it's time to take action. There was a sense of restriction or containment last week but that energy has passed and now your road is clear. What came up during your reflective period last week? Were there things you wanted to work on or set into motion? I really took the weekly card to heart last week and dove into the self-imposed restrictions I put around myself when it comes to my time, money, and energy. I learned that I often cling to my routine and have a real need for control – so much so that I have a deep fear of losing control which fuels my anxiety. While working through the lessons brought on by the Four of Pentacles last week, it became clearer which aspects of my life I needed to focus on. And now this card is propelling me forward to take action with focus.

The Eight of Wands provides us a clear channel to focus raw energy so that we can accomplish things with enthusiasm. This card can bring up a ton of new thoughts all at once. It also inspires clear and direct communication, rapid developments, and the need to make quick decisions. This week you may also find yourself a bit busier than usual, but in a good way! You have been re-energized in a sense and are granted an opportunity to make progress through focused attention.

On the other hand, this card can have you moving so quickly that you may find yourself hurtling through the air and right into the ground. It's easy to get swept up in the excitement and overwork yourself or spread yourself too thin. The key to this week is to maintain focus. While there is no waiting around when this card comes up, it is important for you to get clear on how you're going to utilize this fiery energy to help you succeed in achieving your desired intention rather than end up burning out.

Take a moment to sit with this knowledge and ask yourself what your intention for the week is, or what decision you need to make/goal you want to achieve. Then, make a bullet list of each step you need to take in order to meet your desired outcome. For example, if your goal is to make a big change in your career your list could look something like:

Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.
— Norman Vincent Peale
  • Investigate opportunities in my existing company
  • Set up a meeting to ask for a raise
  • Check out the job boards
  • Reach out to a few colleagues/supervisors for written recommendations
  • Update my resume
  • Follow up on previous tasks
  • Get a promotion/raise or take a new role elsewhere
  • etc.

The Eight of Wands will propel you forward, but it is important for you to accomplish each task necessary to your goal in succession. We often get hung up on the big goal and that can leave us unfocused and unclear. Remember to break things down into a clear action plan and focus on what is achievable right now before skipping forward to the next to-do.
