Weekly Tarotcast: 2/26-3/4

It's Full Moon week y'all! You know what that means. Energies are heightened, we may be feeling a bit more of everything, and since this one is in Virgo we really have the opportunity to be more practical and decisive about how we want to live our lives. A Virgo Full Moon can also help to counterbalance the feelings we have been experiencing while the Sun is in Pisces – Virgo really brings us back down to Earth. If you would like to explore the significance of this Full Moon in your life, let's do a reading! Schedule your Full Moon Reading here. Now let's get to this week's Tarotcast.

While I pull a card every day for myself, on Monday's I like to take a moment to check in with the general energy of the week. This short reading is intended to reveal insight for the collective consciousness, or the energies we as a unified society may experience in the coming week. The messages that you relate to are the messages you were meant to hear! If you are interested in expanding on how this energy will affect you in the coming week, I encourage you to book a three card reading so we can explore deeper.

King of Wands

Keywords: Leadership, Vision, Inner Strength

The King of Wands is a fierce leader and represents the most fiery aspect of fire. In this card, he is depicted wearing a deep red shirt with an outer blue cape that signifies the power and capacity to contain heat. We see him in an arid desert with his staff completely upright, showing his assertive control over his inner flame. This King has a great reserve of strength and while he is certainly in an environment conducive to a wild fire, he maintains his inner heat and shows control rather than setting everything ablaze while also preventing himself from becoming a cool ember. He has complete authority over his fiery nature.

The King of Wands reminds us that there is virtue in holding back our fiery side and that it is important to guard against the tendency to overreact or be too impulsive. He also encourages us to be visionaries and lead others to help him accomplish the goal he has committed to. This King looks forward to challenges and loves the difficulty of working through an issue and using his problem-solving skills. People are naturally drawn to this King and when he shows up there is often an opportunity to take on a challenge and succeed. We must be wary of becoming too aggressive, domineering, or downright arrogant when leading others to victory. In the Herbal Tarot, the King of Wands is associated with Cinnamon – a warming and drying herb that builds internal fire by promoting digestion, increasing the metabolism, and on a spiritual level, dissipating inner coldness and allowing the creative fire to burn.

So how may the King of Wands show up for you this week? Let's look at it from an energetic/constitutional perspective. If you are someone who tends to be more fiery in nature (ie. faster metabolism, runs pretty hot, sweats, maybe has a digestive system that moves too quickly, or tends to be hot-tempered, etc.), you may feel like your fire is being stoked a bit more this week. It is important for you to approach this week like the King and maintain control over your tendency to overheat, whether that be physically or emotionally. If you are feeling extra hot, try not to exacerbate that and instead look to cooling herbs like Peppermint or moving a little slower with some restorative yoga.

If you are someone who tends to be more watery or earthy (ie. typically cool, emotional, deals with watery issues like congestion, stubborn, slow digestion, etc.), you could use a dose of the King's medicine this week and heat your embers up. Add a little fire to your routine, whether that be through an intense workout to build inner heat, or adding warming herbs like cinnamon and ginger to your diet.

If you are more ruled by air (ie. always moving around, struggles with overstimulation, scattered thoughts, anxiety or nervousness, etc.), the King of Wands is here to remind you that you can have authority over your situation. This week it will be important for you to ground yourself and approach things from a place of control. Also be aware of air's ability to increase fire – it may be easier for your emotions to build a little too quickly into anger this week. Or, on the other hand, you may feel all of your fire swiftly blown out if you overexert yourself. Be aware of this, stay grounded, and keep your staff firm like the King of Wands this week.

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.
— Patanjali

Luckily, the Virgo Full Moon will help us deal with this fiery energy and offer a sense of grounding. If you are able to keep your inner fire in balance, this could be a great week to push forward in a project you are working on and be bold or more creative in your approach. At work, you may find yourself in a leadership position which you will do well in this week. Romantically, this King may supercharge you with passion and on a more spiritual level, this King reminds you to reflect on how you can take charge and create a lasting, productive impact on your community.

Try this affirmation from The Spirit of Herbs by Michael Tierra and Candis Cantin to help you channel the King of Wands in a balanced way this week:

"i acknowledge my inner fires and use my strength to direct my destiny."
